Nature

While the top third of the 20 acre block is developed as a campsite, the other two thirds of the property is natural bushland with walking tracks to enable schools and others interested in the flora and fauna, to carry out their studies. Riyala is a Land for Wildlife property and we implement the fire management practices of the traditional owners of the land which has allowed for the recovery of monsoon rainforest adjacent to the Elizabeth River that supports a wide variety of birds and other wildlife for your enjoyment.

We will introduce some of Riyala’s wild residents throughout the website. Please respect our wildlife. If you’re calm, quiet and keep your distance, they won’t worry you and may come up to say hello. If you find some of them to be troublesome, such as frogs and snakes looking for dinner in the toilets, or in the unlikely event that a possum has found its way into your room, please contact the site managers.

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
    or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
    or let the fish in the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know
    that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10 In his hand is the life of every creature
    and the breath of all mankind.

Job 12: 7-10
